The Dutch Society of Nuclear Medicine (NVNG), founded in 1968, is a multidisciplinary association with members from fields including medicine, pharmacy, medical physics, and (radio)chemistry.

In response to current and future human capital challenges within the nuclear domain—such as attracting, educating, and retaining a sufficient number of qualified professionals—the NVNG, in collaboration with affiliated professional organisations (NVKF, NKRV, FAST, and NMEP), is organising a NEXUS meeting in the Netherlands at the request of INSPIRE by EANM.

The NEXUS-NL Weekend focuses on networking, knowledge exchange, and personal development. Its aim is to connect and inspire the next generation of professionals in nuclear medicine, while bridging the gap between university education and postgraduate training, with attention to the full nuclear value chain.

Simone Jap-A-Joe
I studied Medicine at the UVA and specialized in nuclear medicine in the AMC, followed by three years of radiology training at the OLVG. Since 2007, I have been working as a nuclear medicine physician at the OLVG and serve as Secretary of the Board of the NVNG as well as National Delegate for the Netherlands at the EANM.

What makes nuclear medicine so appealing to me is the continuous development within the field, which keeps it constantly challenging. The close collaboration with colleagues and the industry is also highly inspiring and gives me extra motivation.

Henna Reigman
After completing my medical studies at the VUMC, I trained in nuclear medicine at the LUMC. Since then, I have been working at the Noordwest Hospital as a nuclear physician and medical head of the medical department. More recently, I became a board member of our scientific society, the NVNG, which also shows me the other side of the field, namely trends at the European level. The impact of nuclear developments that could become significant for the patient is my personal driving force, acting as a central coordinator for a variety of medical disciplines.

Meike van Wijk
I studied Technical Medicine at the University of Twente, and during one of my master’s internships I came into contact with the Department of Nuclear Medicine. I was quickly convinced by the unique combination of technology and clinical practice, imaging that allows you to see what is really happening inside the body, and the possibilities to link diagnostics and treatment.

In addition to my work as a researcher in the field of radioembolization, I also wanted to contribute to the field in a broader sense. Therefore, I became involved in several national initiatives aimed at addressing and solving challenges within nuclear medicine together. One of these initiatives is the NEXUS weekend!

Bieneke Janssen
I studied Chemistry at Utrecht University. During my Master's in Drug Innovation, I completed an internship with the radiochemistry group at the Department of Radiology & Nuclear Medicine at VUmc, where I also had the opportunity to participate in an international radiochemistry conference. This experience further sparked my interest in radiochemistry and led to a PhD project in radiopharmaceutical chemistry in Amsterdam. I am still fascinated by the possibilities and applications of radiochemistry in healthcare and continue to work with great enthusiasm in this interdisciplinary field.

In addition to my work as a scientific researcher in radiochemistry at Radboudumc, I serve on the board of the Dutch Clinical Radiochemistry Association (NKRV). In this role, I contribute to the organization of the NEXUS NL weekend.

Rosa Hart
I studied Bio‑Pharmaceutical Sciences in Leiden. During my Master’s programme, I completed two specialisations: first Education, followed by Science and Business. As part of the education track, I obtained my teaching qualification in chemistry and taught at a secondary school.

Since 2024, I have been working at the expertise centre FAST (Centre for Future Affordable Sustainable Therapy Development). At FAST, we focus on bringing innovative therapies to patients faster, in an affordable and sustainable way. One area where this is particularly challenging, and exciting, is nuclear medicine. It is a rapidly evolving field with many innovative therapies, and there is still so much to discover and learn every day.
